Sheffield General Cemetery, one of Sheffield's most fascination locations, celebrated the end of a four-year £3.8 million conservation and repair programme this summer and on 25th October there will be a gathering of those involved to acknowledge their invaluable support for this high-profile conservation project, and to celebrate Sheffield's heritage.

A new park café has opened this week, in a refurbished old public toilet and bus shelter in the beautiful grounds of Whirlow Brook Park, a popular beauty spot for walkers, local people and families.
The Shelter café has proved popular in its first few days of opening.
Shelagh Woolliscroft, Chair of the Friends of Whirlow Brook Park, said: “We’re delighted that the café is open, and hope everyone will support this exciting new venture. There’s lots happening in the park every month, organised by the Friends group. We hope that it will attract a lot more visitors to come and enjoy this lovely park. It makes our job, as volunteers, even more satisfying seeing more people in the park.”
Councillor Richard Williams, Chair of Communities, Parks and Leisure Policy Committee at Sheffield City Council, said: “It’s such good news that The Shelter has opened its doors this week. Whirlow Brook Park is a beautiful place, well supported by the local community and the Friends of Whirlow Brook Park.
“In recent years the Friends Group and U3A, working with our Parks and Countryside Team have done a lot to enhance this magnificent park. Now that we have a café, we’re confident that it will attract even more visitors to enjoy the splendour of Whirlow Brook Park.
“A thriving café and toilets make a huge difference to visitors’ experience within our parks, gardens and woodlands and we know that this has been the missing piece of the jigsaw at Whirlow Brook Park so it’s great to see that this is now in place.
“We have so many green spaces and want as many people to use and benefit from them as possible by investing in them for generations to come. Through our Better Parks initiative, we’re able to bring in fantastic developments, like this café, that improve our green spaces, generate vital income for our parks and support our local economy and businesses.”
Chloe from The Shelter at Whirlow Limited, said: “The vision is to create a community space that will complement the park and provide a space for people of all ages and backgrounds to come along and enjoy a brew amongst the beautiful greenery.”
The Shelter provides a brunch-style menu of locally sourced produce, catering for a variety of dietary options and is open from 8.30am to 4.30pm, 7 days a week.
