The Big Sheffield Spring Switch has secured the cheapest energy tariff for the residents of Sheffield.

The potential savings for people registered for the Big Sheffield Switch could be as much as £429 a year.

Over 2,450 people have signed up for the Big Sheffield Spring Switch in less than two months, with over 400 registering in the last few days. Their collective buying power has secured this exclusive tariff.

Only people registered with the Big Sheffield Switch on or by calling 0800 988 7035 can access this tariff. But people can register, and switch to the tariff until 23 March.

This is the fourth Big Sheffield Switch that the Council has run.

Councillor Jayne Dunn, Sheffield City Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Recycling and Streetscene, said: “This is fantastic news for people in Sheffield. I’m pleased to be able to confirm today that we have secured this tariff which will help Sheffield people to get a better deal on their energy bills. We know that people are feeling the pinch at the moment, energy bills have been hiked over recent years and it’s great to be able to help in this really practical way to ease those household finances a bit.

“It’s also important to say that it’s not too late. These prices are only available to people registered with Big Sheffield Spring Switch, so get yourself onto the website or call 0800 988 7035 to register, and you too could benefit from these prices.”

The exclusive market leading tariff has been negotiated by Sheffield City Council and their energy partner energyhelpline following an auction of tariffs.

Rising energy bills are a big concern to many people with the average household’s dual fuel bill now reaching £1,305 a year, compared to £816 just five years ago.

Householders will be offered the exclusive winning tariff and other market-leading tariffs, so if another tariff suits an individual’s energy needs more, they can sign up for that instead. There will also be green and environmental tariffs on offer.

The Big Sheffield Spring Switch is open to everyone – whether they live in Sheffield or not. This includes people who own their own homes, rent from a private landlord, the council or another social landlord as well as if they pay their energy bills by direct debit, cheque, cash or pre-payment meter.

Signing up is free, with no obligation to switch. You can sign up at or by calling freephone 0800 988 7035.
