Residents and businesses across Sheffield are being warned to be on their guard against bogus callers posing as Amey employees.

The warning comes following reports from Waterthorpe and Meadowhead of a company claiming to be working for Amey, offering to resurface drives using “leftover” materials from the resurfacing works being done nearby Amey is the company delivering the Streets Ahead project on behalf of Sheffield City Council.

Graeme Symonds, Account Director for Streets Ahead said:

“We are encouraging all residents and businesses to be vigilant and not to hand over money to companies or people claiming to be either from Amey or Streets Ahead. We do not carry out driveway repairs and we certainly don’t take cash on the doorstep. If anyone is approached by someone claiming to be from Amey, connected to Amey or the Streets Ahead project and offering to mend or resurface your drive, then we would ask that they take their details, including vehicle registration number, and tell us so that we can report it to the police.

“We would like to thank the residents who brought this to our attention they did exactly the right thing.”

All Streets Ahead and Amey employees carry identity cards and if anyone has any doubts about the identity of a person carrying one, they should ring Customer Services on 0114 273 4567. Alternatively, they can call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
