Richard Wright, Sheffield Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, said: “We welcome the news enthusiastically.
“This is the result of long, hard work by the City Council and other individuals and the whole region should applaud them for that. These investments recognise that the city and its region are becoming a great place to invest and have the potential of being a game-changer for Sheffield.
“It’s not just the money, which is huge, but it’s a statement of faith in our potential and should remove years of scepticism in one stroke.
“It doesn’t mean there is not work to do but it builds on announcements around HS2, IKEA, Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District, the Olympic Legacy Park, the city’s cultural offer, the UTCs, the New Era Development and Meadowhall expansion among others.
“We have to use these to create more wealth and good jobs which will enable us to address some of the social inequalities in the city.
“Once again Sheffield City Region is leading the way in the way things are done. If we can translate this individuality and distinctiveness into the city centre development that is currently being worked on – look out the rest of the UK!”
