Shoppers across Sheffield are getting an early Christmas present from Sheffield Council with free parking in the city centre and most district shopping centres from 2pm every Saturday in the build up to Christmas.
Starting next Saturday (5 December), shoppers will be able to park for free after 2pm in all Sheffield City Council on and off street parking spaces in the city centre and in the permit parking zones.
Councillor Terry Fox, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport said: “I’m pleased to announce this free parking in Council-owned parking spaces every Saturday from 2pm up until Christmas.
“We want to do all we can to help shoppers and businesses alike. By providing this free car parking there’s even more reason to come into the city centre this Christmas. The message is simple – there’s a warm welcome for all in Sheffield city centre this Christmas.”
There is always plenty on offer in the city centre with shops, bars, restaurants and, in the run up to Christmas, there’s the popular Sleigh Bar and the chance to meet Father Christmas.
The Christmas Market is open daily up to Christmas Eve from 10am to 6pm. Independent traders offer a variety of gifts, jewellery, crafts and fresh produce, with refreshment stalls selling hot food and drinks.
The Moor is fast becoming an even busier part of the city centre as more businesses move in – providing the perfect place for Christmas shopping. The Moor Market also offers a wonderful selection of fresh produce and gifts for everyone.
The Moor Market opens Mondays to Saturdays between 8.30am and 5.30pm, but will also be open for last-minute shoppers on Sunday 20 December between 10.30am and 4.30pm as well as on Christmas Eve from 8am until 4pm.
Cllr Fox continued: “It’s important to support local businesses where we can and I hope this free parking will bring a little extra Christmas cheer to shoppers in Sheffield.
“Please check the signs when you park to make sure your space is included in the scheme – they will be easy to spot with our special stickers on pay and display machines.”
Maximum stay periods will still apply and drivers are asked to check signs and observe any local restrictions.
