Athletes from Sheffield who competed in this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow were welcomed to the Town Hall earlier this week by the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Councillor Peter Rippon.
Those at the civic reception on Tuesday, 2 December included gold medal-winning squash player Nick Matthew and his family, including 12-week-old daughter Charlotte.
Mr Matthew, 34, said his next competition will be the Grand Prix in Manchester on Friday, 5 December – which will also be the first time Charlotte will watch her father play squash.
Others on the star-studded guestlist for yesterday’s event included swimmers Ellie Faulkner, Becky Turner, Lewis Coleman, Nick Grainger and Max Litchfield; diver Freddie Woodward, diving coach Tom Owens, swimming coach Russ Barber and John Lane, who took part in the decathlon.
Coun Rippon told the athletes: “I want to thank all of you for what you did in the Commonwealth Games, and wish you every success in the future.”
