Apprenticeship Recruitment Fair, 2 February 2018, Moorfoot Learning Centre
Sheffield City Council is holding an apprenticeship recruitment fair on Friday 2nd February to give advice and information about careers at the council in housing, customer services, and business administration.
Sheffield Council recruits between 70 and 80 apprentices every year and has 28 vacancies to fill in.
Anika Malik, 18, from Fir Vale, won an apprenticeship with Sheffield City Council’s Housing Service in October 2015 and went on to get a permanent job in the service.
She said: “My apprenticeship allowed me to gain knowledge and skills in housing, as well as achieve an NVQ qualification without going to college on a long-term basis.
“I was really looking forward to working in an office and getting involved with such a diverse workforce. Initially I was quite a nervous character when it came to going out to different places for meetings and training. However I have gained so much confidence and am now happy to face new challenges and meet new people.
It’s great to be able to gain experience in the world of work, earning whilst you are learning and completing qualifications that could lead to a permanent job with Sheffield City Council.
“I would encourage ambitious young people to go for it!”
Councillor Jackie Drayton, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Families at Sheffield City Council, said: “Apprenticeships are a fantastic opportunity to experience the world of work, gain valuable skills, experience and qualifications whilst getting paid.
“I’m delighted that the Council are offering these apprenticeships and would encourage young people from all backgrounds and communities across the City to come along to the recruitment fair and find out more”.

The event runs in two sessions 10am-12pm or 1.30-3.30pm at Apprenticeship Recruitment Fair, Moorfoot Learning Centre, S1,4PL.
