Local residents in Parson Cross have been celebrating a newly opened community centre which has re-opened thanks to council funding.
The Emerson Community Centre closed in November 2013 and a local tenants and residents association campaigned for additional funding. The council backed the group’s plan and provided £47,000 for the refurbishment of the building.
The Lindsay TARA held an official opening ceremony on Wednesday, 15 July to celebrate the re-opening of the centre.
Councillor Jayne Dunn, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “We are committed to supporting our communities and helping them thrive.
I am delighted that the Emerson Community Centre has re-opened and I’d like to thank the Lindsay TARA and all local residents for their work to make this happen. It will be a great asset for local people.”
Pauline Bronks, Lindsay Tara’s Secretary, said: “The Tara committee, with the help of Councillor Chris Weldon, other councillors and council officers, have fought for the last two years to get our Emerson Centre re-opened for our local community. Finally this has happened.
“We are really looking forward to lots of groups using the centre with many events being held there. We have pushed for this on behalf of all our local community and hope that it will be well used.”
