Learning to swim is an essential life skill and in Sheffield, SIV and Places Leisure are proud to follow Swim England’s learn to swim framework for their lessons.
Swimming can bring many benefits for your child including lots of fun on a weekly basis, keeping your child’s heart and lungs healthy, improving their strength and flexibility and increasing their stamina, balance and posture whilst also providing challenges for them.
Lessons reward accomplishments and help your child to become self-confident. Lessons also provide a great opportunity for your child to make friends.
Sheffield City Council, Places Leisure and Sheffield International Venues are introducing a new initiative to help children from eligible families learn to swim. Those who are eligible for a Sheffield Saver Plus card can sign their children up to swimming lessons for the great price of £20.00 per month. Parents must be eligible for the card to receive this offer.
Councillor Mary Lea, Cabinet Member for Culture, Parks and Leisure at Sheffield City Council, said: “Swimming is not only great fun, it’s good for physical and mental health. It also teaches life skills as well as being a lifesaving skill. With all these benefits, it’s essential that we make swimming as available as we can to everyone.
“We understand that some families find it difficult to pay for swimming lessons, so we’ve worked with our partners Places Leisure and SIV to provide lessons at a reduced monthly cost to those who are eligible. The offer will be available at eight different centres across the city allowing people from our most vulnerable communities to make the most of this opportunity. I would encourage anyone interested to take the plunge, get in touch with your local centre and get swimming.”
A Sheffield Saver Plus card can be used at Graves Health and Sports Centre, Thorncliffe Health and Leisure Centre, Wisewood Sports Centre plus six SIV venue. Places Leisure will also accept SIV LifeCard Plus.
If you are eligible for a Sheffield Saver Plus card you can also access swimming, the gym or fitness classes at a 30% reduced rate and can join the scheme for free. Just bring along your proof of eligibility.
