The next phase of work to improve the reliability of bus services in Sheffield is now underway.
Construction work has begun on the Bridgehouses traffic management scheme to improve bus journey times and general traffic management on the Ring Road at this location.

These works will provide a new bus lane to access Nursery Street heading towards the city centre. This will allow more room for other vehicles travelling from Corporation Street to Nursery Street and along Derek Dooley Way.

Amongst the other schemes that have started or will be starting soon include:
• Woodhouse Key Bus Route scheme used by the high frequency 52 bus route from the city centre to Woodhouse,
• Badger Road at Woodhouse,
• Handsworth Road junction with Richmond Road
• Parkway slip road at Handsworth Road.

Important bus route schemes delivered in 2014/15 include the new bus/tram interchange at Malin Bridge and the new outbound evening peak bus lane on City Road, which was funded through the Sheffield Better Bus Area.

All these schemes contribute to the Sheffield Bus Partnership’s aims of improving the reliability of public transport in the city.

Councillor Leigh Bramall, Sheffield City Council’s Cabinet Member for Business, Skills and Development said: “We are determined to keep traffic in the city moving and have prioritised the key locations across the city that will make a difference to improving bus journey times and the reliability of public transport.

“These schemes will help us to deal with the management of traffic hotspots that have been identified for improvement and we will continue to seek the best ways to help traffic flow through the city as smoothly as possible.”

Any enquiries about these schemes should be sent to transport@sheffield.gov.uk .

The public transport schemes are funded through the Local Sustainable Transport Fund, with project-specific funding from Department for Transport, and have been developed jointly by South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, the City Council and the bus operators.
