Temperatures are expected to plummet this weekend across Sheffield as the city receives the first wave of freezing winter temperatures. The Streets Ahead team is ready and on standby with their fleet of 19 gritters to respond to whatever the weather might bring.
Although, at the moment, snow is forecast it is anticipated that this will be a light dusting. The Streets Ahead team is still getting ready and also encouraging the public to do the same.
Cllr Tony Downing, Cabinet Advisor for Environment and Transport, said: “It’s that time of year again and the Streets Ahead team is again on alert to respond to whatever the weather may have in store for us. They will be monitoring the five forecasting systems across the city all weekend and if needed, they will be out gritting the primary and secondary routes.
“This year, we also need to the public to play their part and ensure that they are prepared for the freezing weather. There are simple things they can do such as wearing the appropriate footwear and checking that your vehicle is winter ready. We are also calling on our army of snow wardens to help us grit pavements and support their communities.”
We will be using twitter to keep the public informed with any developments in the weather conditions and to let them know what our gritting service is doing.
