Glass houses at Norton Nurseries to be restored for food growing

The glass houses at Norton Nurseries in Sheffield’s Graves Park are to be restored and a new operator will be commissioned to grow food in the space.

Currently the glass houses are an underused resource that are at risk of further deterioration. But at a Charity Trustee Sub-Committee meeting on Monday 4th March, a license was granted to commission an operator for up to five years, to take over the running of the facility.

The new operator must make use of the facility for food growing and develop a plan to enable fairer access to affordable food for local people.

When selected, the new operator will be responsible for the maintenance and improvement of the space and contribute to the outcomes identified in the Food Strategy to the benefit of Sheffield.
