Update regarding supporter entry and egress at the Leppings Lane area of Hillsborough Stadium
Sheffield Wednesday FC were required to present comprehensive plans to the Safety Advisory Group (SAG) to ensure home and away supporters can enter and leave the stadium safely via Leppings Lane.
At a SAG meeting last week (22 January 2020) the club presented its response and proposals. The council found these proposals to be acceptable. SWFC are now implementing these plans, which will be subject to ongoing monitoring. Consequently, the club’s safety certificate has been amended accordingly.
Councillor Bob Johnson, Cabinet Member for Transport and Sustainability, said: “I understand that this has been frustrating for some fans and for the club, but throughout this matter our only concern has been the safety of supporters and the public, and this remains our priority going forward.
“I’m really pleased that Sheffield Wednesday has developed scalable plans to manage crowds of varying size and they are now working to put these plans in place for this weekend and beyond to ensure everyone is safe during match days at Hillsborough.”
