British Cycling and HSBC UK have confirmed the route which thousands of locals will take as they pedal their way through the city for the HSBC UK Let’s Ride Sheffield event, taking place on July 15.

The free-to-attend event will get underway at Endcliffe Park, with the 6.5km course taking participants into the city centre via Ecclesall Road. Along the route, there will be plenty of things to keep participants of all ages entertained, with Festival Zones situated in Endcliffe Park and Peace Gardens.

Here, there will be a host of family-friendly activities as well as live music and refreshments for participants to enjoy.

Julie Harrington, chief executive of British Cycling, said:

“Sheffield played host to a fantastic event last year, and we’ve worked hard – alongside Sheffield City Council and local businesses and attractions – to ensure that HSBC UK Let’s Ride Sheffield will again be a truly enjoyable, free and family-friendly day out which showcases the best of the city and the real benefits of cycling.”

Councillor Mary Lea, Cabinet Member for Culture Parks and Leisure at Sheffield City Council, said:

“Working with British Cycling and HSBC UK we can promise a brilliant day for all the family. Whether young or old, novice or pro, HSBC UK Let’s Ride is an event for everyone and further demonstrates Sheffield credentials as The Outdoor City, giving people the chance to explore our city centre and some of our beautiful parks and gardens on two wheels, completely traffic-free.

“With a fantastic line-up of activities at the entertainment zones, people can hop on and off the route and do as many laps as they can manage. Cycling for fun or for travel has many benefits so I hope we’ll see lots of Sheffielders come along and be inspired to take up cycling.”

Luke Harper, head of HSBC UK’s partnership with British Cycling, added:

“Our partnership with British Cycling is about getting more people to experience the joys of cycling, whether they are a new or lapsed cyclist. The HSBC UK Let’s Ride series of events is designed with grassroots cycling in mind, giving people the opportunity of seeing some of our finest cities on a closed road circuit, with additional events for all the family.

“The effect of more people cycling is not to be sniffed at, it will undoubtedly lead to a cleaner, fitter, healthier Britain.”
