The city's Peace Gardens will play host to #LoveSheffDay – a celebration of local literary, musical and cultural talent.

The free event is an open invitation for everyone to get involved – both by attending the free event and also using the hashtag #LoveSheffDay to tell the world their favourite aspects of the Steel City.

#LoveSheffDay takes place in the Peace Gardens on Saturday 11 May, from 12-6pm and includes a full day of live music, poetry reading, fun fair, kids’ entertainment, catering and more.

The Lord Mayor is hoping local people will adopt his #LoveSheffDay hashtag and share their love for the city.

He said: “I have nothing but love and respect for my adopted city and its people. There is so much talent here. But I’ve often found we don’t shout about the place enough. So I’m using this event to celebrate Sheffield, say goodbye and to encourage people to tell the world why they love Sheffield.”

Taking to the music stage on Saturday are renowned Sheffield 20-piece party act, the Tin Soldiers.

The band consists of 18 horns, electric bass and drums, and performs tracks by the likes of Earth Wind and Fire, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, The White Stripes, Wild Cherry, Herbie Hancock and others.

There will also be contributions from two of the finest musicians from Music In The Round – Matthew Hunt and Amy Harman - who play clarinet and bassoon with resident group Ensemble 360.

The Peace Gardens is an alcohol-free zone, no event traders will be serving alcohol during #LoveSheffDay.

A former refugee, Councillor Magid Magid is Sheffield's youngest Lord Mayor at age 29. His year in office finishes on 15 May.

Councillor Magid said being mayor was the "most rewarding thing" he had ever done.

"One of the reasons I wanted to be a councillor was to play a more active role in my community and represent those voices that I believed weren't being represented in the council."

The Lord Mayor has also invited people to share their personal vision of Sheffield through a photography competition organised by Our Favourite Places. The winner will get to spend the day with Councillor Magid in one of his last days as Lord Mayor.

#LoveSheffDay will continue into the evening with Magid’s farewell party at Plug nightclub. The event – which includes free flapjack and custard  -  will be raising funds for his nominated charities, Sheffield Flourish, Sheffield Women's Counselling and Therapy Service and the Unity Gym Project.

The event at Plug starts from 8pm. Get tickets for Magic Magid's Leaving Party.
