Shoppers at the Moor Market this Saturday 9 April are in with a chance of getting their hands on one of 100 special Pete McKee posters for his upcoming exhibition, signed by the Sheffield artist himself.
The team behind summer holiday themed show, ‘6 Weeks to Eternity’ are taking over a stall at the Moor Market for the day and inviting you to bring your old photos of the 6 weeks’ holiday and to share memories of those lost summers and in return the first 100 contributors will receive a signed McKee poster.
The Multi-Coloured Snap Shop will be located next to the food court in the Moor Market and will be open from 9am – 4pm on Saturday 9 April only. Everyone is welcome and all you need to do is bring in a photo of your favourite memory of the 6 weeks’ holiday, which will be scanned for the exhibition.
Richard Eyre, Head of City Centre Management & Major Events at Sheffield City Council, said “We’re looking forward to welcoming Pete’s team to the market on Saturday and delighted that he chose the Moor Market to host his Multi-coloured Snap Shop.
“We’re hoping it will encourage people to come down to show their support for an iconic local artist and also their fantastic local market.
“Events like this attract a wide audience, and that’s what we want, more people coming in to see the diversity of stalls in the market for themselves. Many people are surprised that market is home to the biggest selection of independent businesses in the region and once they’ve experienced the quality and value that’s on offer they keep coming back, and I’m sure even Mr McKee himself will pick up a few speciality treats on the day”.
All the photos that are collected will be put on display at Pete’s upcoming exhibition ‘6 Weeks to Eternity’ at Magna in Rotherham this May. The first 100 people to bring their holiday memories to the Snap Shop will receive a special 6 Weeks poster signed by Pete. One per visitor while stocks last.
The Snap Shop will also be hosting some other nostalgic Saturday afternoon activities including a 5-a-side Subbuteo tournament* with the ultimate football prize on offer for the winning team.
Meanwhile, a host of Spring activities and events are set to take place at the Moor Market throughout April.
Sheffield Life Festival, a celebration of the innovative medicine, dentistry and health research taking place in Sheffield, comes to the Moor Market on 22 and 23 April where you can view an interactive exhibition showing how our body fights disease, or come along on Saturday and get hands-on with activities, exhibits and demos about the latest medical research.
On Thursday 28 April we’re hosting another Tea Party in conjunction with The Moor Sheffield, Home Instead Senior Care and Sharon’s Café. The event is on from 2-4pm and has been organised for the elderly, lonely and/or socially isolated people. Afternoon tea, sing-a-long with the fabulous Debbie Angel and, for the adventurous, dancing to live music! Places are limited to 50. To book your place telephone Sandra Barley on 07702208533.
As well as the planned events and activities the market has recently welcomed some new traders. Twisted Burger Company has moved into the food court in their first stand-alone venture. Meadowhead Flowers have taken a permanent stall after finding success on the pop-up barrows and Thai supermarket, Lemongrass, opens this Monday 11 April.
Tokhi Meats are also new to the market and the only butcher dedicated to selling a wide variety of halal produce and accompanying spices.
Mr. Eyre added “There’s always loads’ going on at The Moor Market for people of all ages and walks of life, with more events and activities coming up throughout the year and some exciting new traders to be announced in the forthcoming months.
“I would encourage people to come down and see first-hand what the market has to offer them, be it entertainment and lunch with the family, the huge range of specialist produce or the personal touch from our friendly traders and savings on their weekly shopping, we really do have more reasons to visit”.
