Winter roadshows will be taking place at a number of locations across the city so that Streets Ahead can let residents and businesses know more about the city’s winter service.

The Streets Ahead team will be bringing their roadshow bus, as well as a gritter to two locations in Sheffield. The events will inform the public of how Streets Ahead grits and maintains the roads during winter and will offer information on preparing for all kinds of severe weather.

The events will take place on:

  • Tuesday 18 November at Barkers Pool, from 11am to 2pm
  • Thursday 20 November at Drakehouse Retail Park from 4pm to 6pm

Cllr Jack Scott, Sheffield City Council’s Cabinet Member of Environment, Recycling and Streetscene said: “Winter is coming and we’re prepared. We want people to come to these events to find out how they can also prepare. These events are also the ideal opportunity for us to talk to the public about how we grit, locations of grit bins and how the public can help themselves by using our grit bins to help keep the pavements clear.

“We will also be bringing a gritter along with us to Barkers Pool and Drakehouse Retail Park so that the public can come along and have a look at one up close.”

Streets Ahead’s Highways Operations Manager, Jim Pursglove, said: “Our winter maintenance service operates 24-hours-a-day, seven days a week whenever the weather demands and we’re looking forward to holding these winter events across a number of locations in Sheffield. The Streets Ahead team will be available to answer any questions that the public may have about the service we carry out through the winter months.”

Visitors to the stand will also be able to take home some winter goodies by taking part in a survey asking how prepared the public are for the winter weather.
