Thursday and Friday saw the highest number of hits ever in a 24-hour period to Sheffield City Council’s news website, Sheffield Newsroom, with over 80,000 visits to the information relating to flooding.
John Mothersole, Chief Executive of Sheffield City Council, said: “Over recent years, we have been providing more news content directly to the public than ever before, through the Newsroom site and associated digital channels. This work really came into its own on Thursday and Friday, with record numbers visiting the site for information about the flooding in Sheffield.”
The city saw 64mm of rainfall in 24 hours on the third wettest day ever for South Yorkshire, and Sheffield’s wettest November day on record.
John Mothersole continued: “Our communications team did a great job keeping the city informed throughout the night on Thursday and into the early hours of Friday morning, as people woke up to check their commuting routes.
“Sheffield Newsroom, as well as the Council’s twitter and facebook pages, are the best places to find up to date and accurate information about developing situations in the city, and we would encourage everyone to use these great resources.”
