PARENTS and carers are being asked to shape the future of schools in the South West of Sheffield to help ease baby boom pressures.

Earlier this year Sheffield City Council put on hold plans to expand Dobcroft Infant and Junior School by one class per year following consultation.

Now they are urging people to come to a series of workshops to explore all options.

This could include expanding local schools to bringing schools together, as well as opening a new school in the area. This covers the catchment areas of Dobcroft, Dore, Ecclesall, Greystones, Holt House/Carterknowle, and Totley – including the local church schools.

Children and Young People’s Executive Director Jayne Ludlam said: “Having listened carefully to all of the issues and alternatives put forward during consultation, the Council’s Cabinet decided to pause on the proposal to permanently expand Dobcroft. It was agreed at cabinet that a further exploratory period was needed to consider all of the alternative options to increase primary school places in Southwest Sheffield.

“Now we want a wide range of stakeholders, including parents and carers, to add their voice at these workshops in this exploratory period. All options will be explored further before a decision is made about which option should go forward for further consultation in the next few weeks.”

She added the council will prioritise the option that is in the best interests of children and families and represents value for money, whilst maintaining and improving the quality of education on offer in Sheffield.
