As Sheffield Pride returns for 2020, as with many events in the city it will be celebrated differently this year. Sheffield City Council has marked the occasion with a ‘Pride crossing’ in the city centre. The semi-permanent design on Pinstone Street has been created to coincide with the city’s Digital Pride event on Saturday 25th July. The Pride flag will also be raised at Sheffield Town Hall.
Councillor Bob Johnson, Cabinet Member for Transport and Sustainability at Sheffield City Council, said:
“As with so many events planned for this summer, it is unfortunately not possible to gather in person to celebrate Sheffield Pride this year, a festival that is usually a highlight of Sheffield’s social calendar. It’s important to us that we still mark this celebration, and so to compliment this year’s Digital Pride event we have installed a Pride crossing in the heart of Sheffield.
“I hope that everyone enjoys our vibrant addition to the city centre street scene and that you will join us in celebrating Sheffield’s LGBTQ+ community this weekend creatively and safely.”
