Greg Fell, Director of Public Health at Sheffield City Council said:

“As we all look forward to a sunny and warm weekend, it’s more important than ever that we all adhere to the social distancing guidelines in place.

“Yes, it’s important to get some fresh air, but this needs to be done sensibly, in your garden or during your daily exercise.

“You can exercise outdoors once a day, such as going for a run or a walk. Please do not travel, stay local and keep to social distancing guidelines, staying two metres away from people you don’t live with.

“’Now is not the time to have a barbecue with your friends and family. I know it can be tempting to make the most of the good weather by sunbathing in the park or getting out into the Peak District, but we all need to follow the Government guidance and stay at home to save lives.

“We would politely ask all households with a garden to consider if it is necessary to use Sheffield’s parks and green spaces. Many residents in the city don’t have outdoor space and so will need to use these for their exercise. This will help to avoid lots of people in the same places over the weekend.

“I know it’s hard, but we are asking everyone for their continued support in keeping to these guidelines. This will help to save lives and protect those we love.”
