Stocksbridge is soon to see a transformation as Streets Ahead announce that upgrade works will begin in March.

The long awaited works will include road and pavement resurfacing, installation of new energy efficient LED street lights, upgrading the drains and the replacement of some highway trees.

Work will begin in the west of Stocksbridge and will include roads such as Coronation Road, Moorland Drive, and Hole House Lane, moving across the area to the east, which will include roads such as Armitage Road, Linden Crescent and Alpine Road.

Residents and businesses are invited to Streets Ahead roadshows across the Stocksbridge area to find out more about the works before they begin.

The roadshow bus will be at:

  • Stocksbridge Christian Centre on Tuesday 27th January – drop in anytime between 9am and 11am.
  • Stocksbridge Community Leisure Centre on Tuesday 27th January – drop in anytime between 1pm and 3pm.
  • Stubbin Estate Community Centre on Thursday 29th January – drop in anytime between 11am and 1pm.
  • Silver Fox pub on Thursday 29th January – drop in anytime between 2pm and 4pm.
  • Co-op supermarket on Thursday 29th January – drop in anytime between 5pm and 7pm.

Councillor Jayne Dunn, Cabinet Member for Environment, Recycling and Streetscene, said: “It’s exciting to see the Streets Ahead project progressing across the city and moving into a large area to bring the roads, pavements and Streetscene u0p to standard, which when completed will make the area a better place to live, work and visit.

“We want everyone to find out more about what Streets Ahead are doing and I would encourage everyone in the Stocksbridge area to come to a roadshow and find out which roads will be affected and when.”

Graeme Symonds, Network Director for the Streets Ahead team, added: “We are looking forward to starting work in such a large area of the city. Planned work could take up to a year to complete as we have joined two zones together, however we have planned the work to minimise traffic disruption and we plan to do as much as possible outside peak travel periods.”

As well as holding roadshows in advance, a Streets Ahead representative will also be at the Step Business Centre in Stocksbridge throughout the works. Residents are welcome to drop in any time on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11am until 1pm, from the end of February, to ask questions or find out more about the works as they happen.

Local residents can also keep up to date with the works taking place in the Stocksbridge area by signing up to email alerts at www.sheffield.gov.uk/streetsahead and providing their postcode, and also by following @sccstreetsahead on Twitter.
