Streets Ahead will begin upgrade work in a number of areas across Sheffield this year, including parts of the city centre in coming weeks.

Roads, pavements and streetlights in the centre, including Pinstone Street, Leopold Street and High Street, are set to be upgraded from February and work is expected to be completed by the end of August.

Roadshows will be taking place in the city centre and the public are invited to drop-in to find out more about the works or ask any questions.

Roadshows will take place at Barkers Pool (outside the City Hall) on:

  • Thursday 5th February – drop in any time between 12 noon and 2pm
  • Friday 6th February – drop in any time between 12 noon and 2pm

Cllr Jayne Dunn, Sheffield City Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Recycling and Streetscene, said: “We are pleased to announce that the Streets Ahead works will soon be bringing the city centre’s roads, pavements and streetscene up to standard.

“We’re keen for as many people as possible to find out about the works we’re doing, not just in the city centre, but across Sheffield. Residents and businesses are invited to come along and see what we will be doing to make the centre of Sheffield better and when works will begin.”

Graeme Symonds, Network Director for Amey, said: “We’re looking forward to making upgrades to the city centre as it’s an area that will benefit all in the city and visitors too.
“Works in the city centre will begin later this month and are scheduled to mainly take place during the night to minimise disruption. We’re also working closely with the bus operators to make sure everything continues to run as smoothly as possible.”
