Sheffield United football manager Chris Wilder has shown he’s a good sport by signing the banner which celebrated the Blades’ promotion for the Lord Mayor’s charity.
The Blades boss put his name, and the initials UTB, to the banner which hung outside Sheffield’s Town Hall when the Blades celebrated their return to the championship last week.
The banner will now be auctioned off for one of the Lord Mayor’s chosen charities. The Lord Mayor’s office is inviting sealed bids for the banner by the end of May, to firstname.lastname@example.org
Councillor Denise Fox, Lord Mayor of Sheffield, said: “It’s great that Chris has signed this banner which will mean so much to Sheffield United fans across the city – we’ll hopefully raise a considerable amount for charity.
“We now wish Sheffield Wednesday the very best in their bid to reach the Premier League and know the city will be celebrating more sporting success soon.”
The Lord Mayor’s Charities – St Luke’s Hospice, Sparkle Sheffield, Support Dogs and ABF The Soldiers’ Charity – have so far benefited from more than £20,000 this year.
